Share in Magical Cameo Moments Together Using FaceTime

A new integration with SharePlay allows gifters and recipients to watch a Cameo video message together

The only thing better than receiving a Cameo is gifting a Cameo and witnessing the heartwarming reactions from your loved ones. Whether the video leaves them smiling, laughing, crying, or even speechless, there’s nothing quite like surprising your friends and family with a personal message from their favorite stars.

Getting to experience a reaction in real-time is priceless, however, not all of our global users can enjoy viewing Cameos together, in-person. With 80% of Cameo videos given as gifts, we wanted to enhance the gifting experience ahead of the holiday season (and beyond). We’re excited to announce our integration of SharePlay so users can gift or receive a Cameo while on a FaceTime call, making the Cameo moment even more magical.

What it is

SharePlay makes it possible for iPhone and iPad users to share experiences with friends and family while on a FaceTime call, completely in sync. With Cameo’s integration of SharePlay, for the first time ever, gifters and recipients now have the ability to easily watch a Cameo video together — no matter where they are — and experience reactions synchronously.

How Does it Work?

To get started, the gifter will need the Cameo app installed on their iPhone or iPad running iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1 or later. If a member of the call doesn’t have the app, SharePlay will guide them through the process of installing it seamlessly in order to participate in the experience. To select a Cameo video to display, users can go to their collection of Cameos on the “Profile” tab within the app. After users tap the video they’d like to display, the app will pop up a prompt to share the video with others on the FaceTime call using SharePlay. Once users tap play on the Cameo, the video will begin playing on screen for all viewers.

SharePlay will keep the video in-sync for all users on the FaceTime call, and will automatically control volume levels so everyone will be able to hear one another while the video plays.
